These are the riders in the very first edition of the Tour of Nilgiris. They make one helluva bunch. And they are making history: these adventurous, brave and completely carefree riders have turned TFN into a remarkable ride.

Saurabh’s dream is to create a world where the only means of transport are bicycles, trains and human-powered airplanes.
“In a cricket-everything India, TFN is doing the perfect thing. Hip Hip Hurray! Lets show people how enjoyable cycling is!!”

This Air Traffic Controller by profession is presently associated with the Adventure cell. Although a qualified skydiver, rock climber, rafter & skier, he specializes in mountaineering and has undertaken a number of mountaineering expeditions both nationally and internationally. He is passionate about cycling and has been into the activity since his school days. TFN would revive the memories of IAF Trans Himalayan Cycling Expedition , an eight member cycling expedition of 3000 Km from Dalhousie (HP) to Bagdogra (WB), which he led successfully in Nov 2003. Instrumental in introducing MTB in IAF, this highlander is looking forward to the TFN on a Matt TFS 100.

He owns and readily shares his other bikes: a Cannondale, Giant, Ross, KTM, Marin and Thorn Sterling. He tries to induce riding as an activity in youngsters and middle aged men and women persuading them to use cycle to do their daily chores and also as an outdoor fitness activity. Some young guns have, as a consequence, taken it up as a sport. His other passion is long distance running. He has run half marathons in Delhi, Mumbai and Ranchi. With old parents, demanding work, time intensive outdoor activities (he has a passion for self sufficient long bike tours), Delhi traffic, and travelling to hometown for care etc has left him little or no energy to indulge in any other activities. He has planted many trees many a times in Ranchi during the monsoons, always taking saplings from the forest department.

Strange as it may seem, he is up at 2:00 am everyday. Half an hour of warming up and he’s out on his cycle and has put in a hundred kilometres by five in the morning. Then the kids arrive and he puts in another fifty with them! By eight in the night, he is ready to doze off – many times, during supper.
