The BSA Tour of Nilgiris is a bicycle ride. Sure, we all know that. But once you are done with it, it doesn’t really stop. We’ve been talking to people who went on the tour and the one things we hear constantly is, “The ride changed me.” So, we wondered for a long while, “Are we talking to people fighting mid life crisis? Or is there something more profound to the ride?”
The simple answer is: The change is deep within people. The BSA Tour of Nilgiris is not about 900 km or 70 riders or 8 days. It is about how they go back to a time in their lives when anything was possible, where you could live a life free of worries and complications and mind games, and be amidst nature, putting yourself and your senses to the challenge of doing the extraordinary and sharing the joy of doing it with like minded people. In that sense, long after you are back from the tour, you experience a kind of euphoria that refuses to go away. It’s cleansing. It’s beautiful. And it never really ends.
Over the next few months, a series of newspapers and magazines will be writing about the tour. We will try and capture it here for you as well as on the media page of this site. And you’ll know that even in the real world, the BSA Tour of Nilgiris doesn’t really end — it is written about across the year. And with good reason: it’s not about a ride. Hey, we know of a lot of people routinely going uphill and downhill to the point where it doesn’t really matter which way they are headed. The BSA Tour of Nilgiris is a little different — it is about a collective experience that has no words to describe it.
For the moment, here is a report on the BSA Tour of Nilgiris from India Today’s Special New Year Issue that hit the stands today. We know that only a very special bicycle ride merits the kind of attention that BSA Tour of Nilgiris has been getting. And as a cyclist who is interested in the tour, you have made it what it is. Thank you.

The BSA Tour of Nilgiris 09 had to end. And, today, it did. Hope you managed to follow the action via our live blog coverage, Twitter, our SMS channel and the images at Flickr.
The tour ended after crossing Bandipur forest this afternoon. All riders are safe, happy and excited. All of them will shortly pack their bicycles, have lunch and get into comfortable luxury buses for the journey to Bangalore. Tomorrow, they head for a wild cool off party. After riding 900 km, who doesn’t deserve a kick ass party and a beer or two?

Shay Mandel, voted Most Sporting Rider on BSA TFN 09
We love the fact that Shay Mandel (above) made it as the Most Sporting Rider on BSA Tour of Nilgiris. Why? Because he is such a sweet guy! And he is pretty accomplished as well. Shay is the person behind the Hyderabad Bicycling Club (HBC) and has been riding all over the world for the last 20 years. Under him, members of the HBC get regular bike maintenance classes and tips. Shay champions a balanced cycling regime that involves power, endurance and speed.
