About tour

The Tour of Nilgiris was a cycling trip a few friends wanted to do across the Nilgiris biosphere in 2008. The word spread, even as the plot was being hatched; soon it grew into India’s longest, largest organized and supported bike ride.

The TfN, as its known for certain nebulous reasons, in 2009 covered 900+ kms over the three regions of Coorg in Karnataka, Wayanad in Kerala and the Nilgiris district in Tamil Nadu which form a contiguous habitat for a variety of flora and fauna that are unique to these parts. These are clean, green Mountains and while we strive to help the newest Newbie complete the Tour, they are also a very real challenge to even the more accomplished bikers.

TfNTen, the 2010 edition of the Tour was bigger, longer and prettier! It saw 100 riders cover over a 1000kms. There were two major climbs to Ooty and then to Sultan Bathery tested and satiated the climbers while providing enough photo-ops for everyone.

The TfN2011, hitting the roads this December will have renewed format and is perhaps the toughest Tour ever.

The TfN2011 will see 70 Riders pedal 850+ kms through Mysore, Hassan, Madikeri, Kannur, Sultanbattery and Ooty before winding up in Bangalore.

Why do a tougher Tour?

Simple. TfN has always been the first choice of tour for anyone who has taken to cycling seriously.

We make sure theres always lots of help from the Biking Community to every Rider on the Tour. Surprisingly, in the BSA TfN 2009, every Rider (even the newbies) completed the legendary the 24km Ooty climb with absolutely no assistance required.

With exciting competitive stretches on each day and two excruciating climbs, the TfN Eleven is already promising to be the Tour to start training for.

Who runs the TFN?

The RideACycle Foundation (RAC-F) is a not for profit organization that is committed to popularizing cycling for commuting, leisure and as an agent of social change.

Please see our website (http://rideacycle.org) for the impact RAC-F has had on improving public perception and cycling infrastructure and for all the details of the many activities that we do as part of making cycling a viable option for daily transportation.
